2012 Summer Classes
When is the best time to start preparing for the SAT/ACT exams? Parents hear advice all day long on when to start: from the school, from friends and from advertisements. So when should you start?
CCPrep advises a schedule that creates the least amount of stress as possible. We advise students to begin in the summer before their Junior year, so that they may take the exams the first time in the Fall of the Junior year, and any possible retakes in the Winter/early Spring so that all exams may be completed before the busy AP Exam season in the April and May months. This way students will alleviate some of their stressful, busy lives by removing one key part of the application process early – the SAT/ACT exams.
Are there any students who should wait? Yes. Those who play fall sports and are not taking any AP Exams, or those who have not yet completed Geometry and Algebra 2, should consider waiting until after the first semester of Junior year to look at taking the exams.

Retaking the SAT or ACT
Many incoming Seniors find themselves in the situation where they have already prepared for and taken the SAT and/or ACT, but they would like to take it a final time in the Fall of their Senior year in order to raise their score just a little bit more. There is always the choice of individual tutoring to help bring about this final push, but that can be cost prohibitive for many students. Therefore CCPrep has created a course specifically designed for the student looking for additional guided practice for a retesting of the SAT or ACT. Please read more here.

Do You Need Test Prep?
No, test prep is not required. In fact it shouldn’t even be needed.
The SAT and ACT are designed to test the level of a high school student’s readiness to perform in a college classroom; they’re not designed to see who has the money to spend on expensive test prep courses. Then why do so many students attend test prep classes? And why do these test prep classes claim success in raising scores?
The answer can be found at the gym. No one needs a personal trainer – we know how to exercise and lose weight. Run here, do push up there, it’s natural. But why are there so many personal trainers? 2 reasons: (1) to show you the best way to do it and (2) to make sure you do it. The same reasons applies to SAT/ACT test prep.
Does anyone have a child just begging for their parents to purchase them the SAT practice book so that he or she can sit down on weekends and read it cover to cover? I didn’t think so. That’s why you need test prep. To make sure your student practices the tests – and practices them the “right” way – in order to maximize his or her score. I cannot tell you how many students I’ve come across who do not score up to their intellectual and academic level on their first practice test simply because they don’t like tests. Test prep helps students get past that mental block and achieve the score they deserve. [Read more…]
Welcome to Our New Website!
We’re not new, but our website is!
When we started CCPrep just 2 years ago, we didn’t think our young company would grow so large so quickly. Thanks to the wonderful referrals from all of my great students and parents, we’ve been able to offer SAT, ACT and AP Test preparation to over 300 students this school year alone! Not bad, after teaching only 4 students my first summer! (Thank you, my pioneers – David, Beau, Brooke and Katie.)
As we move into another school year, we are proud to finally offer a website platform that will provide the capabilities and functions to help Orange County students and their parents find the information they need to navigate the gruesome college admission process. Please make sure to check back often, as I will be continuously adding information about new testing requirements, and offering step-by-step advice on the college admission process. I’ll even try to convince Shan and Jayne at Higher Applications to contribute right here in our blog some of their valuable insight into the college search and admission process (for those who you don’t know, Higher Applications works out of our CCPrep classrooms, and are wonderful people to work with).
Our new format will allow us to provide:
- Continuously updated information about test requirements and college admissions
- Daily updates on available classes at CCPrep, including the number of available seats in each class
- A more user friendly atmosphere and contact form
So, please look around and let us know what you think. Our website redesign has been long overdue! With the help of one of our student’s parents, Mark Roknich, and his company, Location Marketing, Inc., we’ve been able to put together a new site that will grow to fit the needs of our students and parents, and will allow us to adapt to the ever-changing college admissions requirements. Their website design services are second to none – Mark and his team have worked tirelessly to guarantee that our new site would not only attractive but functional.
