Our students begin by taking a practice SAT or ACT exam at our office. We then score it and provide a complete analysis of the test to the parents. This is completely free of charge. This part of the process is essential in understanding where the student currently stands, and what needs to be done in order to move forward.
After this exam, most students will take our $250 SAT or ACT course, which meets five times for 90 minutes each session. Upon completion, a follow up practice test is taken to evaluate progress, allowing us to recommend a course of action from that point. Some students stop at this point, and are satisfied with their increase. For others, however, we can offer much more. Once the student has learned the question types found on the exams, and the tricks & techniques on how to attack them, the student must practice in order to continue improving his or her score.
Here is the critical flaw in most test prep programs: they sell you an $800 course and tell you that your student will be better once it’s done. It may be true that the student’s score will see a modest increase after the course, but in order to get the truly exceptional scores, the student needs to practice. Depending upon the grade level of the student, and the amount of additional improvement needed, we will create a customized schedule of practice questions designed to specifically suit the needs of your student. These practice questions are not intended to use up massive amounts of the students’ time – after all they have homework, sports/clubs, community service and the occasional desire to have fun and hang out with friends!
In order to keep the price down, we work on these practice questions in a group of 3 students with similar scores. This drastically reduces the pricing from $70/hr to $30. We usually meet twice a month for an hour each time. Just as in sports, practice is the key to success.
Our goal is the same as your goal: to help improve your student’s chance at getting into his or her dream college – while not breaking the bank trying to get there.
The next step is for your student to schedule a practice exam for either the SAT or the ACT. If you are confused as to which exam to take, just ask! Colleges will accept either test, and some students are better suited for one exam over the other. We’ll help you decide. Most practice tests are taken Saturdays from 10:00am to 2:00pm. If this does not work with your student’s schedule, we will be happy to accommodate you. We are here to help you above all else.
