What is Reading Comprehension?
Comprehension is the ability to retain what you have read and recall it for later use. The ability to retain information requires one to first understand it. Understanding does not come from passive reading, but from active reading. It is by anticipating the purpose and direction of a passage that one can best comprehend the intention of the author and therefore the details of the material. We feel that by taking our new Reading Strategies course and learning the very important strategic approaches that good readers utilize, our students will be better able to comprehend the materials that they read both on standardized tests and, by association textbooks and other reading materials for school.
